Awards Over $40,000 in Grants

 

October 22, 2009 - Mobile, Alabama - The Community Foundation of South Alabama awarded grants totaling over $40,000 to support Community Economic Development initiatives including workforce development, early childhood education, affordable housing, social justice and leadership development.
 
Organizations receiving support from The Community Foundation include Southwest Alabama Workforce Development Council Region 9, Baldwin County United, Baldwin Housing Alliance and Tri-Coastal Community Outreach. A grant was also awarded to the Community Ambassadors Program designed to produce grass-roots leaders.
 
In addition, a Community Social Impact Fund was established to pursue social justice initiatives. 
 
Southwest Alabama Workforce Development Council Region 9 - $5,000 Matching Grant
The grant award will help build SAWDC capacity to develop strategic partnerships which attract, educate and train students and workers to better meet employer needs and foster economic growth.
 
Baldwin County United - $3,000
Funding will be used to promote early childhood education for children ages three to six years old.
 
Baldwin Housing Alliance - $5,000 Matching Grant
The capacity building grant will help Baldwin Housing Alliance to provide access to affordable safe housing in Baldwin County.

 

Tri-Coastal Community Outreach - $972
The grant award will be used for operating expenses.

Community Ambassadors Program - $2,500
The Community Ambassadors Program will provide leadership training for grass roots participants and encourage them to become active in their community.
 
Community Social Impact Endowment - $25,000
The endowment will be used to further social justice initiatives.
