Mary Ann Friedlander and Angel.

Saved By An Angel's Arms

After Mary Ann Friedlander began volunteering with animals rescue groups she quickly realized there were never enough resources to care for an ever growing number of animals that were abandoned or abused. Therefore, she decided to establish the Angel’s Arms Animal Welfare fund for the benefit and general welfare of animals in Mobile County. The mission of Angel’s Arms is to support animal rescue groups, spay and neuter programs, and projects designed to prevent cruelty to animals.

“The name for the fund came from an experience I shared with Angel on July 29, 2008, the evening I brought Angel, a Boston Terrier, home with me as a foster. When I saw her huddled in the back of the kennel, shaking and frightened, I knew I could not go home without her. That evening, after we had settled in and she was lying on my chest, my husband next to us on the sofa with our other dog Molly, I felt Angel slowly move upward on my chest. As she nestled her head under my chin, it was as if she wrapped her legs around my neck, and I felt at that moment that I was truly in the arms of an angel; hence, Angel’s Arms Animal Welfare Fund. We are no longer fosters for Angel...we are now her permanent guardians,” Mary Ann Friedlander.

Angel’s Arms seeks to relieve animal suffering through educational efforts, public awareness and community involvement. Mary Ann and her close friend, Barbara Work, are currently raising funds for Angel’s Arms so that grants can be awarded for projects that support animal rescue and prevent cruelty and abuse.

Angel’s Arms is administered by The Community Foundation of South Alabama. All donations are tax deductible. Every gift, whether large or small, is greatly appreciated and will be used to ease the suffering of animals.
