The Community Foundation awarded a $10,000 grant to the Dearborn YMCA for the After School Academy which provides a safe environment for at-risk students.

Approximately 100 children between the ages of 6 and 13 are engaged in character development activities including tutoring, recreational activities, arts, crafts, and field trips promoting cultural enrichment.

Studies indicate that children from low income single parent families have an increased risk of dropping out of school. This research-based program has proven to be effective by incorporating tutors and self-paced computer instruction.
