July 1, 2009 – Mobile, Alabama – A ribbon cutting and open house for the new AIDT Welding Training Program will be held at Bryant Career Technical Center, 8950 Padgett Switch Road in Irvington on Tuesday, July 7, at 1:00 p.m.
The maritime welding training offered in South Mobile County has been made possible by a partnership between The Community Foundation of South Alabama, Mobile County Public School System and AIDT. A grant of $180,265 was awarded by The Community Foundation of South Alabama to AIDT, an institution of the Alabama Community College System that encourages economic development through job-specific training. The grant will provide 180 scholarships for participants in a 10-week program of intensive welding techniques and ship-fitting.
Classes will be conducted by AIDT staff or contracted instructors in customized Mobile Training Units located on the campus of the Mobile County Public School System Bryant Career Technical Center. Day and evening classes will be offered with the goal of producing 98 successful graduations per year to feed the growing maritime industry in Mobile County.
Invited dignitaries include: Senator Ben Brooks; Dauphin Island Mayor Jeff Collier; Representative Spencer Collier; Mobile County Commissioner Mike Dean; Senator Rusty Glover; City of Mobile Mayor Sam Jones; and Bayou La Batre Mayor Stanley Wright.
